The judges of the 2027 Paul McVeigh West Cork Residency are myself and three past winners – who better to help chose who will get the best from the experience?

Patrick Holloway is a prize-winning writer of fiction and poetry. His debut novel, The Language of Remembering, was published in 2025 to critical acclaim. His second novel, Interlude, is forthcoming in 2027 with Bonnier Books. His work appears in The Stinging Fly, The Moth, The London Magazine, Southword, Carve, Overland, The Irish Times and The Irish Independent. He is the winner of The Bath Short Story Prize, The Molly Keane Creative Writing Prize, The Raymond Carver Contest. He is the 2026 Writer in Residence at Maynooth University.

Tenaya Steed is a writer and artist. Her stories have been published in The Stinging Fly and won the Michael McLaverty Award and The Stinging Fly/FBA Fiction Prize. She lives and works in Dublin.

Hilary White’s writing has appeared in The Dublin Review, Winter Papers, Tolka, Archaeology Ireland, Sunday and Irish Independents, and the Irish Times. City of Hawks, a book about Dublin and its raptors, is published by Penguin Sandycove April 2027.
